  73. This package contains BBS Informant (TM) by Stevenson Technical Services,
  74. Inc. (STSI).  This document contains only a brief description of the
  75. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  76. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  77. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  79. BBS Informant is a BBS door used for adding, listing, and searching
  80. through available BBS names and numbers.  BBS Informant is a
  81. comprehensive list/search door that stores over 40 fields of data on each
  82. BBS.  Store up to 3 phone numbers, baud rates, and modem types for each
  83. bulletin board system.  BBS Informant also contains fields for Software,
  84. Software Version, Sysop, Operating System, BBS Emphasis, Rate, Location,
  85. Number of Lines, Megabytes of Storage, Number of CD-ROMS, Date of Origin,
  86. Services Offered, Summary, and more!  Network support is included.

  88. BBS Informant is a shareware program. You may use it for up to 2 weeks,
  89. without charge (see INFORMNT.DOC for more details).  If you like the
  90. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you

  114. ===== Installation =====================================
  115.  
  116. The installation procedure for BBS Informant is quite simple.  The
  117. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire
  118. process. You will need about 1 megabyte of available disk space on the
  119. hard drive on which you plan to install BBS Informant.
  120.  
  121. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received BBS
  122. Informant.
  123.  
  124.  
  125. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  126.  
  127. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  128.  
  129. 1. Place BBS Informant distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  130.    diskette drive.
  131.  
  132. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  133.    For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  134.    the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  135.  
  136. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  137.    will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  138.    actually made to the contents of your hard drive. The program will
  139.    ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the BBS Informant
  140.    files to that directory.  If you received BBS Informant on two
  141.    diskettes, you will need to insert Disk 2 in the diskette drive
  142.    when asked to do so.  If you so direct it, the installation
  143.    program will install executable programs and documentation in
  144.    other directories of your choice.

  147. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  148.  
  149. If you downloaded BBS Informant from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  150. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  151. following steps.
  152.  
  153. 1. Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  154.    directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this varies,
  155.    depending on the form in which you received the package. In all
  156.    likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means that you
  157.    already have the necessary tools and knowledge to perform this step.
  158.    If not, you should be able to obtain directions for this from the
  159.    same source from which you received the package.
  160.  
  161. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  162.    example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted the
  163.    files is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS command,
  164.    "c:\tempdir\install".
